I believe the concept of ’school choice’ allows governments and districts to escape accountability for the difficult problems that they simply don’t have the resources, knowledge or political will to fix. For parents of children with special needs such as autism, ’school choice’ presents a false dichotomy, allowing some public schools to ‘fail’ and placing the onus on parents to find suitable alternatives.
